Arlington ZIP Code Geography
The County's ZIP boundary map is the starting point for Arlington ZIP code research. It shows ordinary residential and business delivery areas alongside labels that reach the County edge or federal land. Treat the map as geographic orientation, not a delivery ruling. The map itself says an exact street or unit still needs a postal check. That distinction matters in a dense county where a civic association, voting precinct, parcel, and ZIP can all draw different lines.
| ZIP | County-map orientation | Postal context | Research note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22201 | Central corridor around Clarendon, Courthouse, and Ballston | Arlington Post Office is listed at 3118 Washington Blvd. | Verify a particular unit with USPS. |
| 22202 | Southeast Arlington, Crystal City, Pentagon City, National Landing, airport edge | Station relationship was not confirmed in County material | Map shows a high-density southeast area. |
| 22203 | Central corridor and Ballston-Buckingham orientation | Arlington postal network | County map label, not a parcel filter. |
| 22204 | South-central Arlington, Columbia Pike and Arlington Mill area | South station, 1210 S Glebe Rd. | County map uses this ZIP in its facility legend. |
| 22205 and 22206 | West-central and south Arlington orientations | Exact station assignment was not located | Use the full address, not a neighborhood name. |
| 22207, 22209, 22211, 22213 | North County, Rosslyn river corridor, federal area, and northwest edge | North Arlington station is listed in 22207 | Federal and edge geography need address verification. |
The official Arlington ZIP boundary map also labels block-number conventions: South and West sides of numbered streets are even. That is useful when checking an address, but a map label should never replace the postal result for a specific apartment or business suite.
Note: County ZIP boundaries provide useful orientation, but USPS decides the deliverable ZIP assigned to a complete address and unit.
Arlington ZIP Code Map Areas
Several Arlington ZIP code areas correspond to familiar map orientations rather than fixed neighborhood lines. The County map places 22205 around Westover, Arlington Forest, and Bluemont orientation, while 22206 covers Fairlington-Shirlington and Four Mile Run orientation. The 22207 label reaches North Arlington around Yorktown, Old Dominion, and Chain Bridge orientation. Rosslyn's northeast river corridor is marked 22209. Those descriptions help choose a starting map view; they do not establish a civic association, school boundary, or legal parcel boundary.
Use the Arlington County AC Maps viewer after finding the postal ZIP. AC Maps can search an address and display Address Point, Street Names, parcel/property layers, ZIP Code, voter precinct, and civic-association layers. Its Find Address result normalizes an address and zooms to the selected point. The GIS disclaimer is important: map data is reference material and is not a legal survey or title record.
One Arlington ZIP code directory search can therefore involve two questions. The County map answers where a labeled ZIP area lies. AC Maps answers how that address relates to parcels and local layers. The recorded deed and plat remain the source for a legal lot or boundary.
Arlington ZIP Code Edge Labels
Arlington's most important postal exceptions are visible on the County map. It labels 22101 on a narrow northwest and Chain Bridge edge, where an address can use a McLean mailing city. It also labels 20001 and 20301 near federal or edge geography. A ZIP code can appear on a County map without describing an ordinary Arlington residential delivery area. In particular, federal or military land can have an institutional postal identity that does not identify a household.
This is a records-geography issue as well as a mail issue. Arlington County has no incorporated cities or towns within its borders, despite the city-style form of many searches. Postal city text may say Arlington, McLean, or Washington, D.C. depending on the exact address. County property and court records should be selected by parcel and jurisdiction, not by a mailing-city label alone.
Verify an Arlington ZIP Code
For a precise address, use the USPS ZIP Code Lookup rather than guessing from a nearby ZIP label. USPS offers By Address, By City and State, and Cities by ZIP modes. Its address mode accepts street address, city, and state, with company information optional. Required fields are marked in the tool. USPS warns that a ZIP result does not prove that a particular person or company is at the address.
| USPS control | What to enter or expect |
|---|---|
| By Address | Full street address, city, and state; add the unit when applicable. |
| By City and State | City and state when researching a general postal area. |
| Cities by ZIP | A ZIP code to view postal-city information. |
| Result | A deliverable postal answer, subject to the service's current address data. |
Run the whole street and unit before making a property request. This is especially helpful when the County map shows 22101, 20001, or 20301. USPS recommends recognized city names for faster delivery, while County research still requires the appropriate Arlington parcel or records custodian.
Find Records by Arlington ZIP Code
A ZIP narrows the map, then the address carries the research forward. Arlington Property Search is address based, and its publicly inspected results show situs and mailing ZIP information. The unattended research did not confirm a ZIP-wide result control on that portal, so do not assume it can generate a complete ZIP roster. AC Maps does provide a ZIP Code layer, while the County Multifamily Directory can filter apartments and condominiums by name, address, civic association, ZIP, and other fields.
- Check the complete street address and unit in USPS, especially near the northwest, federal, or District edge.
- Open AC Maps, search the address, and turn on the ZIP Code, Address Point, parcel, and civic-association layers needed for context.
- Search the same address in Arlington Property Search for the parcel's situs, owner, mailing address, legal description, and RPC identifier.
- Use the property result one address at a time. For a street-level chain after the ZIP is known, use the Arlington street directory workflow.
- Keep the verified ZIP with the address, date checked, and RPC so a later map or assessment change can be reconciled.
The Virginia voter portal is not a public ZIP-wide roster. Its self-service lookup uses locality, name, date of birth, and last four SSN digits for an individual's own record. Public voter-list access is controlled by Title 24.2, not by a casual ZIP search.
Note: A ZIP can focus an address search, while an RPC and legal description are more stable links between assessment and deed records.
Arlington ZIP Code Record Layers
ZIP code research becomes more reliable when each layer is kept separate. The situs address is the physical parcel location used by assessment and mapping. A mailing address tells the tax office where to send owner correspondence. The legal description, such as a lot, subdivision, unit, or parcel description, is the key that follows the property through the title chain. None of those fields is a household roster.
| Source | ZIP-related use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| USPS lookup | Verifies the postal ZIP for a full address or unit | Does not confirm a person at the address. |
| County ZIP map | Shows labeled geographic orientation and edge exceptions | Not a delivery guarantee or legal boundary. |
| AC Maps | Connects address points to ZIP, parcel, precinct, and civic layers | Reference mapping, not a legal record. |
| Property Search | Shows address-based parcel data, situs and mailing context | Public ZIP-wide search was not confirmed. |
Permit Arlington, code enforcement, precinct maps, the Multifamily Directory, and historic directories can add address context. Utility customer data is not public in the County's public mapping applications. That privacy boundary is why a map, property card, or ZIP should not be presented as a list of everyone living at an address.
Arlington ZIP Code Street Names
Old Arlington addresses need a second check before a ZIP is used to trace history. The County's historical resources identify a 1935 Directory of Street Names, following a street-name system adopted in 1934. Original names and numbers changed in 1935. An address copied from an old directory can fail in a modern map or postal lookup until the earlier street form is translated.
Jurisdiction names can also change a search. Records before 1920 may be filed under Alexandria County. Material from 1801 to 1846 can use Alexandria County, District of Columbia, and records from 1846 to 1920 can use Alexandria County, Virginia. Arlington County's current name was adopted in 1920. Search both the historic jurisdiction and the old street form when a modern Arlington ZIP code provides no historical match.
The County map's even-number convention for South and West sides of numbered streets is a useful local check. It is an orientation aid, not a substitute for a deed, plat, or historic directory.
Arlington ZIP Code Boundaries
ZIP boundaries and Arlington County limits do not answer the same question. The official map contains ordinary County ZIPs as well as 22101, 20001, and 20301. Civic associations and precincts can cross a ZIP area, and a postal city can differ from the County jurisdiction that holds the parcel record. Verify the full address, then select records by the actual parcel and keeper.
- ZIP code
- A Postal Service delivery area used to sort mail, not a municipal or legal boundary.
- ZIP+4
- An added four-digit delivery segment that improves routing for a more specific address or unit.
- Unique ZIP
- A ZIP associated with a single institution or large recipient, which may not represent a normal residential area.
- Carrier route
- A mail-delivery sequence within an area; it is not a property or residency record.
Arlington's map is useful because it makes the exceptions visible. USPS is the final address check. The Circuit Court's recorded land documents and the County's parcel records remain the sources to consult when the question is jurisdiction, title, or a legal description.
